Nutrition in the NBA

This is a must read article for anyone interested in nutrition, sport or human performance. Kobe Bryant and the LA Lakers have recently changed their diet in an effort to increase performance and improve recovery. The new diet is essentially a Paleo approach to nutrition.

Notable inclusions to their new diet are grass fed meat, healthy fats, and organic fruits and veggies (real food). The outs include sugar, processed grains and vegetable oils (not for human consumption). The diet focuses on increasing nutrient density whilst minimising inflammation and oxidation. Players are recommended to get at least 50% of their calories from fat and cut out empty starches like bread and pasta.

This is essentially the exact opposite of what the Australian Heart Association recommends, and the best thing, it works! Not only for athletes but anyone looking to lose weight, feel better and have more energy.

The players are eating kale chips as snacks (instead of processed crap), drinking bone broth daily (collagen for tissue repair) and adding butter to their coffee (for increased performance).
